Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 medium green bell pepper, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 slices provolone cheese (or your favorite cheese)
  • 4 pieces hamburger rolls or hoagie buns
Optional Toppings
  • sautéed mushrooms Optional
  • jalapeños Optional
  • hot sauce Optional

Method

Cooking the Beef Mixture
  1. In a large skillet, over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Add the diced onion and bell pepper to the skillet with the ground beef. Sauté until the vegetables are tender, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  4. Pour in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and soy sauce, then sprinkle Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper over the mixture.
  5. Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it cook for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together and the liquid to reduce slightly.
  6. Once the mixture thickens, reduce the heat to low. Place slices of provolone cheese on top of the beef mixture, covering it as best as possible. Allow the cheese to melt for about 2-3 minutes.
Assembly
  1. While the cheese melts, split the hamburger rolls or hoagie buns open and toast them lightly if desired.
  2. Spoon the cheese steak mixture generously onto the toasted rolls. Add any optional toppings you like, such as sautéed mushrooms, jalapeños, or a drizzle of hot sauce.
  3. Serve immediately while hot, and enjoy your delicious Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joes!

Notes

Choose the right cheese for flavor, add more veggies, or make it spicy with jalapeños or hot sauce. A slow cooker option is available for convenience.
