Cooking the Beef
- In a large skillet, heat the sesame oil over medium heat.
- Add ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula, and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
- Drain excess fat if necessary.
Adding Aromatics
- Stir in the minced garlic and ginger, cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
Making the Sauce
- In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, and red pepper flakes (if using).
- Pour the sauce over the cooked beef and stir to combine.
Adding the Veggies
- Add the broccoli florets and shredded carrots to the skillet, mixing them into the beef mixture.
- Cook until the vegetables are tender, about 5 minutes.
Serving
- Spoon the beef and vegetable mixture over a bed of cooked rice.
- Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
Notes
You can easily substitute the ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option. This recipe makes for excellent leftovers; store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
