  • Salt and pepper, to taste Adjust based on preference.

  • 1 cup frozen peas Optional for added nutrition.
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs Optional topping for crunch.
  • Fresh parsley, chopped For garnish.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onion until the beef is browned. Drain the excess fat.
  3. In a large pot, bring water to a boil and cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Mixing and Baking
  1. In the same skillet with the beef, stir in the garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika. Pour in the milk and beef broth, and stir to combine.
  2. Add the cooked macaroni to the sauce mixture, and then fold in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and creamy. If using frozen peas, add them at this stage.
  3. Pour the mixture into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
  4. If desired, sprinkle breadcrumbs over the casserole for added crunch.
  5. Place the dish in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
  6. Once out of the oven, let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

Variations include using different cheeses like Monterey Jack or Gouda, incorporating vegetables such as bell peppers or spinach, or changing the meat to ground turkey, chicken, or a vegetarian option. Great for make-ahead meals and can be stored for up to 3 days in the refrigerator.
