Method
Boil the Eggs
- Place the eggs in a pot and cover them with water. Bring the water to a rolling boil.
- Once boiling, cover the pot, turn off the heat, and let the eggs sit for 12 minutes.
Cool the Eggs
- Transfer the eggs to an ice bath or run them under cold water for a few minutes to stop the cooking.
Peel the Eggs
- Once cooled, gently tap the eggs on a hard surface and peel them under running water to remove the shell easily.
Prepare the Filling
- Slice the peeled eggs in half lengthwise. Remove the yolks and place them in a mixing bowl.
- Mash the yolks with mayonnaise, mustard, vinegar, salt, and pepper until smooth.
Add Color
- Divide the mixture into two bowls if you plan to create two different colors.
- Add a few drops of black food coloring to one bowl, stirring until you reach the desired shade. Leave the other bowl as is (or use a different color if you prefer).
Fill the Egg Whites
- Use a spoon or piping bag to fill the egg white halves with the yolk mixture. For a spooky effect, use the black mixture in one half and the plain mixture in the other.
Create the Spooky Details
- Lightly spray the top of the filled eggs with olive oil or cooking spray to help the spices stick better.
- Sprinkle paprika on top for color and flavor.
- Add small plastic spider rings as decorations.
Chill and Serve
- Place your deviled eggs on a serving platter. Chill in the refrigerator for a minimum of 30 minutes before serving to let the flavors meld.
- Serve chilled, and enjoy your Halloween-themed appetizers!
Notes
Deviled eggs can be made up to a day in advance. Store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Add decorative elements like spiders just before serving.
