Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil For cooking the onions
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • 4 burger buns or slider rolls
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese For topping
  • for garnish Fresh parsley, chopped

Method

Cooking the Onions
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil. Once hot, add the sliced onions. Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 10-15 minutes until the onions are golden brown and caramelized.
Adding Garlic
  1. Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
Browning the Beef
  1. Push the onion mixture to one side of the skillet, then add the ground beef. Season with salt and pepper. Cook until the beef is browned, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks.
Combining Ingredients
  1. Once the beef is thoroughly cooked, mix it with the onion mixture. Add in the Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, thyme, and beef broth. Stir well to combine all ingredients.
Simmering
  1. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for about 5-10 minutes so the flavors meld together.
Preparing for Serving
  1. Toast your burger buns or slider rolls if desired. Spoon the beef mixture onto each bun.
Adding Cheese
  1. Top each serving with shredded Swiss cheese, and place under a broiler for about 2 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Garnishing and Serving
  1. Remove from the oven, garnish with fresh parsley, and serve hot.

Notes

Tips for success: You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey for a leaner option. Try different types of onions for unique flavors. Use provolone or mozzarella if Swiss cheese isn’t preferred. This dish stores well; refrigerate leftovers for up to 3 days.
