Ingredients

Main ingredients
  • 4 cups frozen French fries or homemade fries
  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup (10.5 oz)
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: sliced jalapeños or diced bell peppers for added flavor

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef or turkey until fully cooked. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  3. In a large bowl, mix the cooked meat, cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until well combined.
Layering the Casserole
  1. In a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, spread an even layer of frozen French fries on the bottom.
  2. Pour the meat mixture over the fries, spreading it evenly.
  3. Sprinkle half of the shredded cheddar cheese over the meat mixture.
  4. Add another layer of frozen French fries on top of the cheese.
  5. Finish by sprinkling the remaining cheese on top of the fries.
Baking
  1. Cover the casserole with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  2. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the casserole is bubbling and the cheese has melted and turned golden brown.
  3. Once finished, remove from the oven and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Consider adding toppings like chopped green onions, crispy bacon bits, or a dollop of sour cream just before serving. Pair it with a simple green salad or steamed vegetables to balance the richness of the casserole. Offering hot sauce or ketchup can enhance the flavor.
