Method
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef or turkey until fully cooked. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- In a large bowl, mix the cooked meat, cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until well combined.
Layering the Casserole
- In a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, spread an even layer of frozen French fries on the bottom.
- Pour the meat mixture over the fries, spreading it evenly.
- Sprinkle half of the shredded cheddar cheese over the meat mixture.
- Add another layer of frozen French fries on top of the cheese.
- Finish by sprinkling the remaining cheese on top of the fries.
Baking
- Cover the casserole with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the casserole is bubbling and the cheese has melted and turned golden brown.
- Once finished, remove from the oven and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes before serving.
Notes
Consider adding toppings like chopped green onions, crispy bacon bits, or a dollop of sour cream just before serving. Pair it with a simple green salad or steamed vegetables to balance the richness of the casserole. Offering hot sauce or ketchup can enhance the flavor.
