Ingredients

For the cookie base
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)
For the cauldron decorations
  • 1 cup green frosting (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 cup edible black glitter
  • Candy eyeballs (various sizes)
  • 1 cup assorted gummy candies (optional for additional decoration)
For serving
  • Optional: cookie platters or witch-themed serving dishes

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing until fully incorporated before adding the next. Then, mix in the vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt until evenly mixed. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips until they are evenly distributed throughout the cookie dough.
  6. Using a cookie scoop or spoon, drop heaping tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them out as they will spread.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are slightly golden and the centers look a bit soft.
  2. Allow them to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Decorating
  1. Once the cookies are fully cooled, spread a generous layer of green frosting over the top of each cookie.
  2. Sprinkle edible black glitter on top of the frosting for a magical touch.
  3. Place candy eyeballs on top of the frosting for character and fun, and add gummy candies around the cookie for additional decoration.
  4. Allow the cookies to set for about 15-20 minutes before serving so the icing firms up a bit.

Notes

To keep your cauldron cookies fresh, store them in an airtight container at room temperature for about 4-5 days. For longer storage, freeze undecorated cookies in layers with parchment paper separating them.
